I posted this over at Crappie.com too, so if you wander over in that direction you might run into the same post...

Gonna meet my sister and her family from IL next weekend (6-26 to 6-28) up at KY Lake and I was wondering where a good campground is at or around LBL. Probably try to put in and catch some bream or redears if we can. Does anybody have any suggestions of good campgrounds close to or on the lake up that way?

Thanks,

Mike

Hillman's Ferry is the most popular but you need to call about a spot right now. Since it is so popular, it gets booked up fairly quickly. It may not be too bad the weekend before the 4th, though.

It take it you want something with full facilities?

Quackr beat me to the punch and posted while I was typing, lol. :)

Years ago we tent camped at Hillman-Ferry Campground. Nice sites with pea-gravel pads to set your tent on, plus a decent shower building. The campground (as most) will more than likely be pretty crowded this time of year so you may give them a call (see link below).

There is also Moors Marina and Resort. We've launched from there in the past when we had a different boat. They have "cabins" there which aren't too bad, especially if you're going to split the cost, and they have a decent restaurant and marina store, and covered boat slips (additional cost) if you're inclined to use one. After we launched the boat and tied it up at the covered slip we'd reserved, I parked the trailer right beside the cabin we were staying in. Call ahead for reservations.

Lots of other places on KY Lake, but the two above are the ones I've stayed at. If you have the time, go eat at Patti's. Decent prices and good-sized servings. Try the fried dill pickle appetizers. 8) . https://www.pattis-settlement.com/

Ditto on Patti's.

Give me an idea of what you are looking for and I can probably point you in the right direction. KY Lake is practically in my backyard.

Thanks for the replies everybody. Yeah, we just bought a Jayco popup camper and we're going to do some camping around this neck of the woods this year, then venture out farther next year. I'm going to try to throw my 14' Alumacraft jon boat in the back of the truck with a TM so I can get off the bank but I've never tried it before- I don't know if it will work or not. We'll be there 3 and maybe 4 days, just not sure at this point. We need water and electricity hookup, our toilet is a canister type so we don't need sewer.

There are almost unlimited places to camp. It just depends on what area you want to try and stay in, really.

KY Lake is approx. 40 miles long from the dam just to the TN state line. It extends down into TN another 20 miles or so.

People like Hillman but it's a bit too Club Med for me. You won't go wrong at any of these either, if you want to stay in LBL and be in less of a resort type setting. https://www.lbl.org/CAMPAreasLakeAccess.html

There are tons of campgrounds on the west side of the lake as well.

Just got back from my sister's place and we made reservations at Piney Campground. We checked out Hillman but we couldn't find 2 spaces next to each other. Piney had them. We are going to make the trek up to Patti's though - my sister's husband said that he used to eat there pretty often and it was worth the drive from Piney up there. We'll be there from Thursday nite through Monday. Should be a good time and we are looking very forward to it. Thanks everybody for the suggestions.

Piney is supposed to be nice. I've only seen it from the water but several of my coworkers camp there. They like it.
