I thought that some of you might find this interesting after last weekend's probable shenanigans at your local ramps. Lucky for me, the worst I had to deal with was people fishing on the dock while multiple boats were trying to put in/out on a shallow one-lane ramp. This was posted by someone at another fishing forum I frequent (https://www.walleyecentral.com).

I got it...I got it.....
"D'oh!"
No..no...I'm good.....
"D'oh!"
Third times the charm..
D'oh!"
OK..the sun was in my eye's that time.
D'oh!"

The Do's, Don'ts, and the "D'oh's!" ... of boat launching.

I have seen the vid with the mini van but I still can't figure out why they couldn't get up the ramp.Parking brake? :-k

I've also never seen a truck set and spin like that one on such a flat ramp.Bald tires?Holding the brakes to be a show off?

Stuff happens on boat ramps that just doesn't make sense.

I'm guessing the truck wasn't getting any traction because the ramp (maybe) wasn't grooved? I could see it at least. He's still stupid, though. Anyone that's ever had traction problems on ice or packed snow knows you don't floor it to get out. You have to lug it out...put it in a higher gear.

Also, as pointed out in the thread where I stole this...a couple of those people standing around at the ramp could have hopped in the back of his truck to give him some traction.

My wife and I were waiting our turn at a really narrow ramp once, and watched a guy attempt several times to back his trailer down the ramp to load his boat. He had his wife on the ramp giving him directions and he just couldn't get it lined-up straight (I've done that myself more than once). Finally, he's out of the truck cussing and hollering, walks to the back of the trailer, picks it up and sets it straight on the ramp. Thank goodness it was a small trailer, lol.

He wasn't trying to get up the ramp, he was trying to get the boat off the trailer. The reason the van was skidding (besides being front wheel drive), was that either the motor was in reverse, or the line was tied to a dock pole, or something else like that. I really can't see where pulling forward would help, but each to his own. At first, I thought he might have still had the transom straps attached or something.

What's wrong with this boat...lmao(I like Bill Dance)
That 9 min one....holy cow...there must have been something I was missing people aren't that stuipd....are they?Maybe the launch was at a drop off and didn't want to hang his trailer?

I doubt it, but i guess it's possible.

I'm guessing it was a few people that had never put a boat in the water and didn't realize that sometimes the truck (or van in this case) will get wet to float the boat off the trailer.

I've done that before in a small parking spot that I was crossing the line on after getting stopped. I was surprised at how light it was to pickup and move.

I've also unhooked the boat and moved it into too tight of corners to back into for parking while camping. Works really great with a light aluminum boat.

Will :)
