Be careful with decking the front, you might have stability issues. If the boat doesn't have a deck on it now do some homework before you decide to install a deck. Get the boat in the water, put a life jacket on and walk on the front bench. If you find your out of balance and having to sway to keep your balance don't deck the boat. A 12 foot boat semi V generally doesn't have enough beam to deck the front safely. Same issues with decking the rear. Raising the weight higher in a smaller boat is dangerous.

First find your leaks and deal with them.

Be it rebucking rivets, replacing them, welding or sealing.

Then get the boat in the water. Move around to see where it is stable and where it is not. Stand on the hull, stand on the seats, put some weight on the gunwales. Make sure you're careful and wear a lifejacket though! if the boat flips or rocks you may go over the side.

This will give you an idea of how high you can go on a deck.

That'll get you started.

Here's a link to my 12' springbok build in progress, might give you some ideas or get you thinking:

The actual build pictures start a page or two in....

well i have had this boat for 2 years and fish in it a lot almost everyday it is very stable all around really i just want a place for my trolling motor as the " front deck " and a place to hide the motor and battery stuff as the " Back deck "

id like to make the floor all flat and just have the small butt seats so the " Decks " arent really Decks i will try to find a pic or draw up what i am think about
i just need help with what i should use for way and how to do it

and this is what id like to do for the "Front Deck"

I hope you have a warm place to work on your project. Looks a little cold there. I looked on the Grumman web site and it looks like the max horse power for a 12ft v-hull is 10hp. I have been in some boats that were over powered and it is scary. Good luck and be safe!

yeah it is kind of cold i am in the process of making a car port cuz i need to get it done b4 the ice melts cuz Pe-Spawn Bass is the bast thing in the world ! !
yeah i dont want to over power it but i will have to check the tag on my boat to be sure

so i got my hands on a old 7 hp out board that im going to bee using but i still need help with what kind of materials i should use for wood and carpet and what not

any help at at would be appreciated should i re post this in another tread to get more views like it says im still new to here

Im pretty new to this all myself i have been messing around with my 12ft mirrocraft, you should take a look at lowes or home depot see what they have for the indoor outdoor carpet, also i have learned through this website you need to watch how you put the carpet on because the carpet color will look different if you dont lay it on the same way ex: ( https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=22353 )as far as wood goes someone else would probably have better input. i think you have the right idea with the front deck, you dont want it sitting too high i think you would be disappointed with the stability.

as far as the deck goes. Im using 1/2 in CDX for the stuff I will be walking on, since your deck looks like it will be the floor of the boat? I would use 1/2 in CDX... I wouldn't recommend the OSB plywood. that stuff doesnt last very long... CDX is more expensive but you wont have to worry about getting new wood for a while here is my project https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=24055 maybe give you a few ideas

very nice ! i like it a lot thx

As to materials, avoid treated wood for any braces, decking and even trailer skids. The copper in the treatment will react with and corrode aluminum.
Same for galvanized brackets if they come in contact with the boat. Also, use stainless screws, washers and nuts.

I basically did my whole mod using Home Depot and Lowes. I keep my boat in a garage so it stays good and dry so as far as wood rot goes, I probably will go first. I did my floor like what you may be looking to do, if this helps here's the link. https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=23426

Jim

cool thx my boat will be out in the elements quite a lot, im out on the water just about everyday rain or shine and i dont have a garage so i am kind of worried about wood rotting and whopping as well thx for the link would this this make any difference in wood choice ? ?
