Hi fellow Tin Boaters, first time post here!
I would like to set this rig up to fish San Diego Bay for saltwater bass and halibut. It had a rotten deck over the middle bench to the front that I tore out, also rebuilt the transom .
As you can see I have started to install new decks over a subfloor frame, I have dry fitted them ,then will seal them and paint.
My issue is keep the decks low for better stability, or raise the deck over the benches and gain some nice storage with hatches.
I only fish on nice flat calm days, early morning till noon.

Let me know what you guys think.20160611_194916.jpg

I fish big water and usually it's rough out there being lower is much more stable . A far as storage that's what garden sheds are for , boats are for fishing and anything I need wants to be handy not in some organized closet the wifey designs .

Thanks for the quick replies and advice guys. Option 3, finish it as is, and fish it for a while. I could always add a middle deck later.
I will be trying to get some more done this 3 day weekend.

I redid the seats in my old Valco. https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39681&hilit=Valco&start=15
Best thing I did was to buy all new stainless nuts bolts and washers from a fastenall type place. They had the right stuff and it's dirt cheap if you buy a box of 100. The worst thing turned out to be water based polyurethane for the seats. It looked great and did OK but it got soft in places that stayed wet. Those wet places turned a little grey. No big problem for me but I live in a desert. If I was back in Georgia or Arkansas that finish would not last a year. They looked really nice besides that when I sold It. I mounted Walmart coolers in the seats with hatch covers. Those were great.

Stumpalump, a Bayrunner is my dream boat. Perfect for San Diego Bay, and running offshore also. Hopefully next year after I'm finished with the 14 f't Valco project.
Today I finished up bracing the transom. Origional knee brace was shot due to galvanic corrosion, so I put a 2x4 between the rear bench and transom. I could have fab'd a new one from aluminum angle but took the easy way out. Tomorrow after work I'll install the painted decks, then its prime and paint the inside and outside, above the waterline, then ask the family to come over and lift it off the trailer and start working on that. It's a galvanized trailer, so not too much to do. New wheels, grind and zinc paint the axle and leaf springs and new rollers.
Going to install a grab bar, for my electronics, and tiller extension for the Johnson 15 .
I will post some more pics this week as things progress.

Hi All,
Managed to finish up the interior over the weekend. Just need to double up the plywood on the bow hatch then install. Hope to get the exterior primed and painted above the rub rail only this week after work. Then get it off the trailer to work on that.
Moving forward slowly .

Have a great week.

Thanks . Pretty pleased with it. Keeping it simple.

A few before pictures. Transom was pretty shot. Fiber glass mat and epoxy resin repair both sides after grinding clean. Then short strand fiberglass bondo. Solvent base aluminum primer and top coat. With 5200 on any seams. A lot of people will probably disapprove, but I feel a good low cost and effective choice of repair for a $250.00 boat. It is definitely solid, with new wood transom , outer ply for motor mount, and 2x4 bracing between rear bench and transom. Original aluminum transom brace was shot.

Hello again Tinboaters,

Can anyone give me some advice on repairing my drain plug ? We have used the boat with no issues as is, it does not leak. Possibly previous owner just filled it for some reason. Can I just drill it out again and install a rubber compression type plug?

Thanks.
