Just starting to put a floor in my boat. Looking for some advice. I have removed all the bench seats and am putting in pedestal seats. Anyone know where I can get same angle braces for the sides? Also, advice on what to use to seal the wood?

Thanks

if money isnt a big issue, i would use a 2 part epoxy resin system to seal (check out the west marine 2 part system for an example of this), but its pricey. For a more budget friendly, mix boiled lindseed oil mineral spirits and spar varnish in a 1:2:1 ratio. apply in 2 coats to each side, continually soaking until it pools on the surface. This will saturate and protect the wood. Then topcoat with straight spar varnish after you have allowed it to dry for 7 days

PS the ply already seems to be bending some a thicker ply or under supports may be needed. Also, make sure you get some serious braces going on. Most folks only remove the middle bench, you lost some serious support removing all 3

Thanks for the advice. I am using 5/8 " plywood. I am planning to put more support under the floor before I finish. Yeah, I understand I lose a lot of side support by taking the 3 seats out. That's why I am looking for some supports. I may end up putting one or two seats back in.

I’ve done this. You can fab up some braces to help take the flop out of the sides. Aluminum angle works good especially if you have access to an aluminum welder. If not you can cut bend and bolt or rivet. As for the wood, I’ve had good luck using Thompson’s water seal. Take the plug out and tilt the bow up when stored. Cover it in the off season. You’ll want a bigger boat before it rots out!

Thanks for the input. How thick of aluminum bracing should I be using? Thanks

While I am asking and about to purchase materials, advice on what adhesive to use to attach carpet to the wood floor. Thanks for your help.
