I have a 1952 Alumacraft that I have a couple questions about painting. The paint that is on there now is probably 25 years old and is pretty oxidized. It has good adhesion except for a few scrapes that has chipped it away.
So do I clean and sand the hull, priming only any bare aluminum? I was wondering since I do not know the type of paint that is on there now, If there could be a compatibility problem with the primer or new top coat.
I see that alot of folks are using the interlux brightside paint. It says for use above the waterline, But I see some are painting the entire exterior with it. Is it holding up? Has anyone been able to find color samples for this brand online? Also, are there any other paints that work well that can be found locally at lowe's or any auto parts store? Polyurethane or enamel? Paper or plastic? Please help!!! [-o<
Thanks in advance

Zinc oxide primer is the best choice for priming.Sand off any loose stuff and wipe down with acetone.Brightsides is a good paint.Because our boats do not sit in the water it will hold up fairly well. The best choice is steelflex.Call them and they can help you out and keep costs down.
