i am wanting to do a deck in my jon boat was just thinking of using plywood and putting some sealer on it would this work or just soak up water and also what size wood

First off I assume that by "sealer" you mean something like Thompsons? If so then yes it would work, however the "sealer" would have to be re-applied every couple years.

ok what is a standard size i am a healty  guy so i dont want to use a real thin piece of wood and it break i was thinking 1/2 inch

The deck thickness will depend on how you frame the underside. 1/2 decking should be more than enough if you brace every 12 -16 inches or so.

Upload us a picture of the boat and a little more details about how you plan to deck and we can give more detailed info.

Welcome aboard!
