Hey guys, what is a good size for a livewell? I'll mostly be bass fishing, but need to put a livewell in the boat and am trying to figure out what size I need. Any recommendation on brand would be much appreciated as well.

I use

works great for me. Can stand on the livewell hatch.

I have a kit one of the mayfair kits that pumps water from the transom into the well and overflow out the side. I also added a drain out the bottom of the well and out the back of the boat that I plug from inside the well.

OK here''s another question. I'm going to put the livewell behind the front bench seat and was wondering if I should put the intake for it in the back of if I should put it on the side. As long as it is below the water line it should be fine right? I just don't want to run the tubing through the whole boat since I am not going to covering the entire boat.

do you know the dimensions of the liner? I couldnt find the info on the website. thanks

dang... that's a little over $200 LESS than what I paid for mine... which I still have not got yet.

I got a Fishmate Pro (https://www.fishmateprolivewells.com).

Are you going to run a livewell pump to fill it with? If you are, you can put the intake anywhere you want. If you are just going to do a drain/fill hose without a pump, then you need to be below the waterline. A buddy of mine just did his boat with a drain/fill hose, and he has his hose going out the side of his boat about 6" away from his cooler.

He took a 100qt cooler, cut it down to the height of his rear bench, then used wood as a the cover/decking. He doesn't need to worry about water splash since it will only fill up to the water line and he fishes in electric only lakes with it.

I will try and remember to measure it tonight. It's sitting under my boat full of stuff I pulled off my boat so it shouldn't be terribly hard to do.

lol. thanks for pointing out the obvious. I cant believe I didnt put that together. sometimes i amaze myself at how scatter brained i can be.

How much power do these bildge pumps (for recirculating the water in the livewell) take? Should I have a battery devoted to just the livewell? Are you guys running the pump the whole time? Sorry for the newbie questions... never had a livewell before. #-o

Travis... the pumps don't pull much at all. I have a dedicated battery for electronics and all of them run continuously all day long on a 24 series battery - livewell pump, radio, 2 color fish finders

Russ, looks like youre now on the site for those livewells, huh? Looks like they have some of your pics of the build on there from tinboats, ha.
