I am curious about boats like this Carolina skiff.

It's my idea that it is used for fishing tidal areas or maybe offshore but not open ocean. The design suggests that it's stable and can climb waves several feet high. It looks like a nice boat. Can some of you ocean fishers clue me in?

Yes you can take the bigger skiffs out into the ocean but you need to be very experienced in handling your boat. I would not even think of taking anything in the size boat you pictured out. Most of the skiffs that I see going out are the very large one's 19 feet or better. Personally I would only take a big fiberglass V haul with a minimum of a 90hp on 18 ft of boat. That would only be by my self out into the ocean. Been out there too many times when a storm comes up or jokers in little boats call out for help.

I rented a 17 foot Carolina Skiff for a weekend and did not like it in open water.

Just my .02cents from years of fishing mostly on
Maryland and Delaware coast and everywhere in between
