I have a little 12-30 flatbottom with a 40 pound thrust transom mount trolling motor for the electric only lakes around here.

What is the best way to adjust the motor to get the most speed? I'm not in a hurry, but want to use my battery most efficiently.

Should I drop the motor as deep as possible? Run it up near the top? Add any angle to it or just as level as possible?

you don't want it all the way down in the water, that causes more resistance.

I measure 12" down from the bottom of the transom to the center of the trolling motor. that is for my 36" shaft motor, and I keep it straight up and down. I've also got a 42" shaft and I measure it the same distance, but I kick it back one notch so it's at an angle... I don't know why, but that's where I get my fastest speeds

Cool, I'll give that a try. That's probably close to how it's been set, but I've had a lot of room for adjustment and always wonder what might be better.
