I'm restoring a 1954 Duracraft runabout. I'm laid off, so I don't have the money to paint it. I was thinking about just cleaning up the aluminum instead. I don't want a mirror finish, just have it somewhat shiny. Someone said that he's used phosphoric acid to clean up the oxidation. I've also heard that a cleaner called Aluminex works well. What do you guys think?

If money is tight, a friend said he used "the works" bowl cleaner on his aluminum trailer. He said it worked ok. I never saw it when it was done so i can`t say for sure, but for just a couple bucks it might be worth a try and it won`t be wasted money as it can be always be used for what it was intended for! :)
