Well I've been doing some shopping, and it looks like it might be worth ditching the 40 HP and buying a 60 HP.

I have no experience swapping out controls (throttle or steering), so can someone fill me in on what to expect? I'm assuming that because I have a mariner, the steering and throttle would only work for mercury motors? Or am I mistaken?

The steering is Universal (assuming you are not using an old cable/pulley system). There is a bar that connects your engine to the steering bar at the engine, each engine has it's own unique bar, but will all screw into the steering rod. If you get an engine and need the bar E-Bay is a nice place to get this part (cheap as demand is low)

The controls are engine type specific Yamaha goes to Yamaha, Johnson/Evinrude with Johnson/evinrude ect....

Waste
