I am thinking about building a jack plate for my 85hp evinrude.
If I make it out of 3x3x3/8 6061-t6 aluminum would it be strong enough?

I am debating using aluminum plate vesus treated wood for the plate itself.
 
i didnt know if it would work with an 85hp motor or if i should buy a comercial built one.

an 85hp has a lot of power home made may be taking chances
 
it comes down to the thickness of the material you make it out of..
