Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum. I have owned a 16' Fisher Marine flat bottom john boat since 1979. In 1982 I opted to go all electric to fish our local reservoirs (Baltimore). I now run a 48 volt Ray Electric Outboard motor and have 9 batteries on my rig (8 - 6 volt batteries for the Ray and 1 - 12 volt battery for my bow mount motor). Since my boat does'nt plane (6.5mph) I'm dragging about 4" of water. Has anybody had any experience with sponsons to decrease the amount of drag ? Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
HMK

I guess nobody knows.

That's a tough call. You will add buoyancy witch is good.
You will also add surface area and weight witch are bad.
My gut says it's not going to be enough at 6.5mph.
Might even slow you down.

Have you tried moving the batterys around to get more speed?

I just looked at the Ray Electric site and they are only claiming 7mph with there special displacement hulls.
Looks like a very impressive electric motor though. 250 pound of thrust!
