I have a 16' MirroCraft with a 25 hp Evinrude. This boat began life as a giant row boat and many years ago we had a steering console installed an added the outboard. I now want to add some decking and an electronics box.

Additionally, I need some electric power for some of the local lakes. Might even want to be able to pull the outboard off on occasion when I am fishing electric only lakes. I do not want to permanently remove the outboard as this is a great river shad boat right now.

1. Anyone (bassBoy1?) ever build a stand for an outboard motor?

2. i need some decking ideas and help as to where to mount the TM(s)

Just looking for storage stand for the outboard? I built a saw horse with the top board being a 2x4 standing up on its side. Worked great after I put a crank in motor and spent a month trying to get it runing right.

Not sure what the bow of your boat looks like to give TM mounting ideas. Mine looks like a store bought alum plate with a height adjustment. It mmounts to front deck and the TM to it.

A lot of guys out here in indy extend there front decks with aluminum. Some use carpet and others use the spray on stuff like rhino lining. Aluminum is expensive but it's lighter than wood if you are trying to watch her weight. As far as mounting your tm, you can call the jet doctor and he will make you a mount in diamond plate or standard aluminum. You just need to give him measurements I can get some pictures of just my mount send them to you via pm or email if you want. I posted a pic of my boat on the show off page yesterday or the day before. i can't remember if it shows a good pic of it but.....

Here are a few of my stands.
My 1988 Evinrude 4 deluxe on its aluminum custom stand, complete with carrying handles, and adjustable height legs (okay, maybe it is just a granny stand)

Here is the stand that my older motors go on. We picked up the ends at a yard sale for like 5 bucks. They are foldable, and have teeth where they grab the 2 by material, so it doesn't slide out. Each time I get another motor, I use a longer piece of 2 x 4.

Here is the one that my 1974 Evinrude 40 is currently on. It is overkill, but it used up material we had at one point. The legs are 4 x 6 beams, and the top is a piece of 2 x 12. I dislike this one very much, because you can't move it around easy, and can't practically mount wheels. Plus, the stand weighs just as much as the motor.

This is the stand that the 1979 Johnson 55 came on, when we bought it. It is nice, because I can just pick it up with the hand truck to move it around.

We don't yet have our main service stand (a stand to hold the outboard that we are working on, and be able to move it around effectively. But, when we do get time to make it, we will weld it from 2 inch square steel tubing, and it will be a similar shape as the one that has the 1979 55 Johnny. Only difference is, it will have a square base, instead of a U, and will have 4 steel casters on it.

But, the best stand I have found for motors is a boat transom. Almost as if it was made holding motors. :D

BassBoy1 Thanks you so much, really good stuff there (I love teh Granny Stand)

I think I will build one like you have for your 1979 Johnson 55 - I have a hand truck so that woudl be just perfect :D

I will put up pics of the boat right now - I might have an angle on some Aluminum Diamond plate for the decks which woudl be sweeeet. My buddy is a specialist welder type who can weld my decks and all that if I desire - I will see.

Thanks again for the info thus far

As I mentioned, that stand was what the previous owner had. The one thing I would do different, is connect the front U pieces together, making the base a square, it would be much stronger that way.

As far as the aluminum, are you planning on putting carpet over it, or using bare aluminum? The suggestion I have, as I am doing the very same thing with my boat, is if using a floor covering, use a flat piece, and not diamond. The diamonds are just extra weight, they don't help the strength, and they make it a pain to bend in a press break. Now, with the price of aluminum, if you get a deal with diamond plate, go for it. I almost had a deal on the diamond, but apparently it had been mismeasured, and was really only 1/16 inch, instead of .125. Luckily the person was selling other stuff we wanted, so it wasn't a complete waste of a trip.

You have most likely built a motor stand by this late date, but, in the event that you have not.....

Here is a photo of the stand I built for my Nissan motor. I like it because the rollers allow me to move the motor very easily from place to place.

Just some 2 x 4's, glue, 3" deck screws, and some 2" rollers that I had on hand. If I was buying rollers I would buy 4" rollers.

Another Awesome project Bill!

It comes a very close second to Bassboys Granny mobile  :LOL2:

Bill thanks so much - you guys are all great thinkers.

Of course I have done nothing to the boat - so ideas do help inspire me

I know what you mean. I haven't gotten jack diddely squat done to mine. I think with those time estimates I put in the original post, I would be done by now. I have all the materials on hand, the plan in which to carry out, but no time. This is really bugging me. :(

They always tell me that if I am complaining about time constraints now, just wait and see what happens when I grow up. If that is the case, I certainly don't want to. :(
