so ive been thinking about ways to install the hinges for the lids of the storage compartments on my boat, im not so sure that puting them in between is going to work for me. I may have to install them on the outside, but im thinking this might not looks so appealing. I was wondering if anybody else had to do this and if u could show my some pictures of how it came it out? thanks

I am planning to just use plain aluminum or maybe thicker brass hinges on mine. I think the brass would be nice since as it fades/patinas, the greenish color should match the crap brown on the sides of my jon boat.
Otherwise I may just stop at the hardware or marine store to pick up some shiny stainless hinges and just have 2 hinges per lid (I will have 2 lids) (or a set like this https://x.co/O6SM on ebay).

Check out the "swamp sled"...https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17299&start=25

On my back deck, I used what they call off-set hinges, where part is barley showing on the outside of the lid and the inside part is larger, see pics and diagram.

Many Ace Hardware stores should have aluminum or brass cabinet offset hinges. Also check to see if they have a marine section, sometimes they have Ace brand Chrome or Stainless hinges for cheaper than typical marine supplies.

This site has really good prices on nice hinges

Yes, but says only available for special order. And minimum qty. for special order is 15! Uggh Or is that just the blank ones?

hmm i dont think we have a menards here in washington, we have the home depot, lowes, Mclendons and very few ACE Hardwares...We also have Harbor Freight which always has some kickass deals, i bought 2 550gph bilge pumps a couple days ago for $8 each, so cheap. I'll check there to see if they have piano hinges, if they dont have anything then ill check ace, but i know lowes and home depot have them, however the biggest they have is 48" for $9, which i suppose isnt so bad.

Wrap around piano hinges are the best, the hinge side comes up between the two surfaces, but they mount to the bottom of the deck and lid, u put t nuts in prior to carpet, everything is hidden that way.

Do you have some pictures of this method?

Not stainless but this is a continous wrap around piano hinge. I too think this would be the best method because the hine is mounted to cross grain wood not into the end grain (much more secure and you can even through bolt it)
