I am decking out a Grumman 1436. How much pace should I leave for the carpet? If the beam is say 53", do I cut my plywood to 52 1/2? Thanks guys.

Scott,
It seems that most on here wrap the carpet over the edge and staple it to the other side for a nice clean look. The size on the plywood sounds about right.

I just finished carpeting my boat and I left an 1/16 on each side but I really should have left 1/8 on each side

If I were you id cut the ply to exactly the boat inside width then sand from there. That way you can fine tune it angle and all. You can always take off but you can't put back if you mess up youll end up with a gap.

i believe i left 1/8th of an inch when i did my hatches... leaves enough room for 2 layers of carpet and keeps the hatch in place pretty nice. Anywhere else and i'd go with 1/16th.
