New Member With 12 foot Valco and Motor Q?

Hi All....

I'm a new member with a 12 foot Valco that I am going to do up as a fly fishing boat for shallow water -kind of a "micro flats skiff". First, though, I need to get my '61 10 hp Johnson running correctly. It occasionally races on its own -motor suddently speeds up with no change in throttle. Very Wierd. Any idea about possible cause?

First off welcome.
Second, you will probably get more replies in the motor section.

As for the actual problem it sounds like the carb is dirty. It is not pulling good fuel through the idle jet. Then it starts pulling fuel through the high idle jet and therefore the motor "revs" up. Or at least that is what I have found tobe true in the past. Try posting up in the motor section and give it a day or two, but I bet you will get some great answers.

Also meant to post that if the motor is reving up it is usually either running out of fuel or running lean.
