Hi, I was wondering if anyone had considered or tried to use 1" thick plexiglas or Lexan to replace the rotten wood on a transom? My 12' Sears Gamefisher only has a 12"x 15" plywood transom and I thought replacing it with plexiglas would eliminate all hope of rot.

I can get 1" thick plexiglas off ebay for about $20.

If you can get Lexan instead of plexi it would be better, I wouldn't use plexi... and if anyone is ever shooting at you from behind you'll have a little shield.

I used to race circle track back in the day. Our windshields were lexan. That stuff is extremely tuff but its not really any less flexable than plexi. Personally, I'd say no to both. That being said, a 1" thick piece of lexan has got to be darn near indestructible. Dont know how much flex it would have at that thickness though.

Extremely heavy and expensive for the amount required. Also requires specialised bits to get clean holes without chipping/cracking.

I'd just use wood.

More cost and harder to work with than wood for a functionally inferior material.
