How many coats of spar varnish?

Looking to seal deck and transom using spar varnish. Its marine grade. How many coats is recommended for each?

You'll probably be fine with 3 coats on each, with a little extra on the cut edges. That's what I did, and I'm pretty sure I read that from another post somewhere.

Put three coats and a touch-up on mine.

Same here, three coats lightly sanding between coats and extra heavy on the edges.
