Max hp rating Lowe 1640

Hi there,

1st post here so go easy on me!

I just got a great buy on a Lowe 16' jon boat, It measures 15' 10" long and 40" wide at the bottom.
anyway the coast guard plate with the max hp, boat capacity etc is missing. looks like its been replaced with an aluminium plate with just the serial# on it.

So I've searched all over google and cant seem to find the specs on my boat, even emailed lowe boats but they haven't responded, Anyone know the specs? any help would be much appreciated.

I'd like to fit it with a 40hp if it can handle it.

The boat came with a 1990 6hp Yamaha which is a nice little motor but this winter I'd like to put floors, decks etc in the boat which will make it heavier, Hence the bigger motor.

The max hp for a Lowe 1648 is 35hp, since yours is a 1640 it will be less.

The Lowe 1440 max is 20 and the 1648 is 35 so I would say 25 to 30 would max.
