My question is, how does carpeting work on a boat used in saltwater? I can imagine after a while it might get a bit foul smelling. Is painting a better option? Maybe truck bed roll on. Any suggestions welcome.

I would not recommend carpet for saltwater use but that’s just my opinion. I used a product call grizzly grip check the link listed below.

I am very happy with it

Carpet will attract and hold salt which will cause water absorption and rotting. You won't see many coastal or offshore boats with carpeting.

I used this:

after I applied a 2 part primer
