So the boat I have is a camo paint.

I want to sand it down and repaint the hull.

What is the process? Do I have to strip the paint with a paint stripper?

Also what kind of paint. Will Valspar outdoor be ok?

What kind of primer will i need?

It is an aluminum boat.

Thanks

Check out my rebuild thread. You can see the steps of stripping and repainting as I went. I used an angle grinder with a wire brush attachment. I stripped it to the aluminum and then primed with self etching primer. If you plan to go down to the aluminum make sure to use a self etching primer. As far as paint goes I used Rustoleum Topside boat pain. Its only $12-15 a quart at Lowes/Home Depot. I did 3 coats on my boat and still have some left over. They have a lot of different colors available. Here's a pic so you can see how the paint turned out. The red is the Rustoleum Topside.

What he said ^ grinder and a wire wheel will do wonders and speed up the process, and for the spots you cant get to iv used air craft remover the stuff is really nice, just dont get it on any sensitve skin " bare foot " while you do it otherwise it'll burn like fire when its on your skin.
