I recently acquired my grandfather's 14ft jon boat. With the exception of some old, plastic swivel seats, 5hp motor and a trailer, it's pretty bare bones. If there were FIVE ESSENTIAL ITEMS or ACCESSORIES that a functional, fishing jon boat should have, what would those be? Like most others, I'm on a budget, but I also want to take care of this boat and keep it in the family, as it has been for the past forty years. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Trolling motor, fish finder, livewell, rod holders, cup holders....

There are probably more suggestions, but that is what popped into my head,

i think there are just 3 must have items for all jon boats. comfortable seats, bilge pump and a trolling motor.

after that what you plan to use it for dictates what is needed.

unless you plan to only beat the bank for bass and brim. a fish finder is very usefull.

a lot of rod holders would be nice for cats and panfish.

lights for bowfishing.

Life Jackets
First Aid Kit
Trolling motor
Comfortable Seats
Live Well (that can be used for fish when you need it, or storage when you don't need it for fish)
