I'm looking for the best way to mount a bilge pump in my boat. I saw one that was glued to a piece of angled aluminum and then screwed or rivited, not sure which, to a trabsome brace. Any ideas would be helpful. I figure if anyone can help m you guys can. (pics would make it a lot easier, if they're available.)

Thanks
Mike

I glued mine down with 4200. It's semi-permanent.

I screwed mine down to a block of very heavy plastic cutoff from a counter top, similar to Corion. It was important that, whatever I screwed it on to, that the base would be heavy enough to keep the pump from floating up.

I also wrapped the entire pump and base in fiberglass screening, to keep junk from blocking the impeller. Being "portable" I can pick it up and clean out the accumulated debris easily.

It has worked out well for me for a couple of years, now. R

Jay, did u glue it right to the pump housing? Any problems with the glue plugging up the impeller? 4200, is that silicone or what?

It's a rule pump and the screen housing separates from the pump. So if the pump went bad I could just pop it out and pop in a new pump. If I went with a different pump I could just scrape it off.

4200 is a marine adhesive/sealant made by 3m. 4200 is their semi-permanent and the next one is 5200 which is their permanent adhesive/sealant.

you can also try 2 sided body molding tape.any autoparts store.its weather proof and you can remove it if you really have to.sticks really good to metal.in my pic you can see the tiestrap holders on my bilge hose,i used it on those and believe me,they are STUCK.

So covering up the bottom face of the pump won't affect it's ability to pump water? That's the only thing I was worried about. I guess it wouldn't though since it has slots in it and the bottom of it is only a couple of mm thick.

James, I like the velcro idea. Actually I like all of the ideas. This site is a CORNUCOPIA for redneck ingenuity! I love it!

Like the others, I glued mine down also. Only I glued mine to a small piece of 1/16" stainless plate, I then rolled a stainless sreen and tack welded it to the plate. By doing this I no longer have to hassle with leaves clogging up the pump.

In my fishing boat, leaves, sticks, plastic bags, wrappers, you name it, it all seems to find its way to the pump. I like the cage. If you encounter allot of mud, having the pump not mounted flush, but a 1/2" above the flat base will reduce the amount injested.

I like the screen - I used aluminum window screen on my big boat to protect the pump for the fish box

That pump even had a macerator but fishing line would defeat even that feature
