I was just wondering if liquid gasket would work to seal around bolts on a new transom or for adding sealant to new closed rivets to replace rivets in a hull. Especially since liquid gasket is way cheaper and easier to find, has anyone used it, did it fair ok?

5200 is great stuff, but 08008 is good stuff to keep laying around, drys quick and hardens really well and it's paintable.

I agree. 5200 is the way to go. You don't want to scrimp on anything that helps to water proof the boat. 5200 is well proven and the Gold Standard of Marine caulk/adhesives. You should able able to get it at virtually any Lowes/HD, West Marine, NAPA or other auto parts stores. A toothpaste size tube is only about $7 and will last for ages. Plus, it's great for all sorts of other jobs and cures white and is paintable. A stitch in time saves nine ;)
