Found a couple nice 3/4" cedar scrapes in the attic and have some leftover fiberglass resin lying around.

Thought this might be a good combination to se as materials for a transom rebuild.

Good idea on not? The price is right.
 
cedar is soft.If you are putting an outboard on that transom,I would opt for something stronger.
 
If you have polyester resin it's pretty much worthless without glass cloth, it'll crack and peel off. Epoxy resin is the one you can use alone or with glass cloth.
 
I would not consider cedar for a transom designed to hold a motor. I'd build an entire boat out of it...but...not the transom if it was to hold an outboard motor. Just my opinion, of course.

Exterior grade plywood is what you need don't use pressure treated wood on an aluminum boat. I used 2 layers of 1/2" ply gorilla glued together. Titebond III is another good waterproof glue.
