Faded plastic restoration

I saw someone's mod on here that had some faded plastic on their console and I ran into this article today and thought that it might work to fix up old faded plastic parts on peoples boats.

Note I haven't tried it so I would test it on a small portion that is out of sight. Also, vaseline is petroleum based so it will eat rubber parts.

prolly works for a little bit then needs reapplication. you can get a plastic renew kit for atv, dirtbike plastic that actually goes past that faded layer then you polish. works pretty good.

It's a temporary fix. Vaseline is used by a lot of fiberglass boat guys to 'restore' color to faded gelcoat. It is easy to do, and looks great, but will only last a short period of time. I'd imagine on a console that isn't in water, it may stay looking good for a long time. If nothing else, applying it when you are selling makes it look like new for the prospective buyer.

Kinda the equivalent of putting Armor All on it...

If you got faded stuff, try automotive interior dye. It comes in a rattle-can, and the more screwed up the plastic is, the harder the stuff sticks.

Kewl! It'll work out perfectly then!... my boat just happens to be a '99 Hyundai.
