I have to replace a couple dozen solid rivets on my boat. How do you figure out how long of a rivet to install? Do you use a solid rivet that's 1/8" or 1/4" longer than the sheet metal's thickness?

Thanks for the help!

Id go with the 1/4" reveal. This will give plenty of material to mushroom over and give a good connection.

crazymanme, are you referring to 1 1/2 times the diameter of the shank of the rivit?

Yes, so if your rivet is 1/8" that would mean you need a 3/16" of the rivet sticking out.

This is aircraft standard.
