Here is how I solved the problem. It's a copy of what I had on my Carolina Skiff. With the brace, it hardly flexes at all. I've got a 42" Minn Kota Riptide 50# motor to mount. Folks complain about the plastic motor clamp in the Minn Kota motors flexing and shifting around on their mount, so I marked the securing pad screws and counter sunk where they will be. It shouldn't shift on this mount. I've still got to clean it up and paint it. I did paint the plywood with fiberglass resin.

I finished this one. I still need to paint all the aluminum to match the hull. I connected the same male plug on my battery charger, so that I can just plug it in to charge my deep cycle battery.

Looks great. I had to use a different method though because my boat's front deck comes almost all the way up to the top of bow. A lot of jons don't have the open space like yours.
