Ok, I KNOW it's is subjective BUT just curious out of all the tinnies you've been in which of the modified V hulls has given the best ride? In the market for a 17' to 18'. I currently own a G3 which is my 3rd one. They build a nice boat BUT, when there's a chop, you need to have your dentist on speed dial to replace those fillings. I know those with more deadrise will give you a better ride... but just what boats are THOSE :?:

Got a Lowe 1760SC, modified V 3° hull. Not the best ride. Its rated for 6 persons when most of 17' jons are rated for 5.
Because of the wide nose, but its not the best ride but its what i like.

You might need a Deep-V boat. If you really want the ride smoother, get a sea version... its little overkill for lakes, but that depends what you need.

My Deep V rides real nice.....not sure if it would be better than a mod v, but it will take a rough water and is very dry.

Check out War Eagle too. I've run a few and was pleased with them. I bought one as a matter of fact, but mine is a little 1548LDV (mod vee). I ran a Predator a while back which was impressive. Was a great crappie boat.

This totally depends on the waters you're planning on being on.

Generally speaking though...you would have to have some V to it....but that's not if you plan on going shallow.

I think some of you folks are confused on what a Modified V boat is. It has a V in the bow and a flat stern. It is not a jon boat or a flat bottom and most definately not a Deep V. Here is a boat I have been in and it handles Big water very nice! A friend of mine has the 18' tiller model with a 50hp Yahama.

I would call that a semi V.
This is what I'd call a Mod V...

I'm a curious person by nature and I just have to ask the questions what and why. Used to drive my parents NUTS. When reading this , I wanted to know EXACTLY what the difference is between the , Mod-V , Semi-V and true V-hulls. While looking around on the net ,I found this post and I think it explains it well.

To Badbagger, my 16 ft Lowe has this semi-V hull and it rides very well in choppy water. I've been out in the Rappahanock river which is about a mile wide at where I go for croaker and it did great when the wind kicked the waves up .

This Polar Kraft 168SC was the best riding tin that I ever owned. It is considered a deep v. It had a 17 1/2 degree dead rise with reverse strakes on the hull. Lund, Lowe, Princecraft and others build hulls like this. Very dry good riding boat.

Great....NOW I WANT AN ICE CREAM CONE!

:LOL2: :LOL2: :LOL2: There was a homemade ice cream place on the way home from one of the lakes we fished in Indiana, and I always had to stop and get my wife a cone.
