I have one problem that I did not think of before I made my framing for my deck. I was wondering if anyone has used rectangular deck hatches without out any support bracing? I need to make a small access area for the front casting deck and wondered if just the hatch frame alone would be enough to support the weight of a big guy like myself. I am having a hard time finding the right size hatch so I was thinking of just cutting the hole and installing a hatch for my anchor and battery access.

I built a hatch at the bow of my boat...

Not quite the same setup, but mine is really sturdy. I'd be concerned about stability...hard to see from your design if it could hold a lot of weight or not.

Good luck!

Check out this post for some pics of my hatch. Guy on here made it for me. If it were flat you could walk on it I'm sure, or could even reinforce more if wanted.
