I have a 1995 Smokercraft Pro Mag 162 that needs the floor replaced. I have little experience in replacing floors in boats, and I am looking for some guidance. Any tips, tricks, methods, or other advice would be appreciated.

not really any tricks i can think of.....just tear out the old and replace it with new. just make sure you take real good measurements so when you cut the new non pressure treated ply of your choice or other material it fits tight all the way around like the factory floor, you can always make your measurements 1/4 inch or so bigger that way you you have a little to play with to make a good fit, cut too small you cant add material to make a good fit. while your floors out its a good time to inspect the foam and make sure its not full of water and make sure you have ample space for any water to drain. use SS hardware to avoid corrosion when you secure the new floor and deck. my 2 cents.... im no expert and you may get some good tips or tricks from some other guys on here that know more than me about it....btw your boat is sweet!! i see all kinds of possibilities for some cool mods.

id go with some vinyl looks really nice

After doing a little more researching, it seems epoxy is the way to go for waterproofing the plywood. I don't want to use carpet again either, so this should work out nicely. What is the best way to go about removing the old floor? Also, what types of epoxy have some of you been pleased with?

pull the carpet up and you should see the hardware that holds it down. as for epoxies i have no clue(never done it). search the restoration/mod forum and theres a ton of opinions..........

this should do seem pretty popular her on tin boat for epoxy

i like the company www.tapplastics.com but im here on the west coast and could go to one of there shops that i used to be close to but now have moved they have a lot of quality stuff

i used to build and fly rc sail planes and we would scratch build everything from fiberglass and foam and have worked with it extensively

they would be pretty comparable i would think i would see which is cheaper with shipping or if you can get the west system locally https://www.westsystem.com/ss/where-to-buy/

I have some epoxy paint that is supposed to be used on concrete/masonry. Would it be alright to use this to cover plywood, or would you advise against do this? Also, has anyone heard anything about the epoxy system that Overton's supplies. I was thinking about doing that rubber-type coating they offer, but I'd like to hear more about it.

Any epoxy designed for concrete or masonry may not be designed to flex, which would be needed if it were on wood or other flexible materials. If it doesn't flex, you will end up with cracks in the epoxy and that would let water/moisture in. Although I haven't finished the mods on my boat so that I can put my floor cover down, this is what I plan on using. https://www.tuffcoat.net/wordpress/marine-2/

When you pull the old floor out, if you can do so in one piece or large pieces...you can use that as your template for the new floor.

Post pictures as you do the job. This could be a great instructional thread for anyone.

This stuff worked great for me. Time will tell if it holds up

I do not know yet....still working on the whole boat. My guess is that it might heat up a bit, but I have a bimini that will shade most of that area in any case.
