Is a 42" bow mount too long for a 14 topper? I am about to buy a bow mount trolling motor now that I made a deck for the jon. I plan on upgrading to a 16 jon in the next couple years. A 36 would probably be too short for the 1648. But I f I go with the 42 now will it be too long? Thanks in advance

I would think you will be ok... I'm using a 45" shaft on my 1860.

You just want to make sure the prop stays in the water - longer shafts are generally for when you're in rough water with waves. I normally keep the center of my prop 12" below the surface of the water. That seems to be the sweet spot for me as far as control and speed

I just wanted to make sure it would raise up enough for really shallow water.

The motor will be somewhat adjustable in the mount, they dont work well as a surface drive, less than 16"-18" you best buy some oars.
