Read all about transoms in the forums. Questions I have are...do I have to double two pieces of plywood or can I get away with 1 piece of same sized lumber? And, how bad will it be if that piece of lumber is pine? My floater is only a 12 footer and the most I will have on it is either or incombination a 45# TM and a 4.5 Merc, maybe a 9.9 Johnson at the most. I am in a teeeeny town is Northeastern NC and it ain't no place close for lumber other than Ace! Come on y;all, talk to me!

If you are talking about something like a 2x6 or bigger then I don't see anything wrong with that as long as it is one piece. Don't use treated wood it will eat at the aluminum just use regular pine but give it a good coat of water seal also be sure to drill the bolt hole and seal the bear wood and it should last a long time. Hope this helps.
