How many of yall put a board or pylwood between the motor and the outside of the transom? I've seen ths alot around here and noticed that the 16 ft Lowe transom is starting to bow inward some. Wood on the inside is new and sturdy.

I replaced the one on my boat when I redid the transom but only because it had one when I got the boat. I'm not sure but I don't think it is there to strengthen the transom. I think it's purpose is to allow the motor clamp to grip better and prevent it from slipping.

On my boat the previous owner used tin plate over the aluminum. I think it was for a small kicker motor or trolling motor.....boy did it screw up the aluminum. Electrolysis ate right through my transom skin.......be careful what you use. I guess wood is ok as long as its not PT.
