Howdy folks! Long time lurker finally joined the ranks. I'm buying a new alumacraft mv 1648 20" transom next week and could use some help. I have had a 1436 for a few years now and always used a transom mount trolling motor.on the new rig I will be using a bow mount but can't decide on the proper shaft length. The motor I'm looking at is the minn kota edge hand control and it comes in two shaft lengths 45" and 52". Will the 45" shaft be long enough to keep prop submersed without me having to bend over to reach the controls? I usually fish rivers but do hit a few man made reservoirs where the chop can get kinda rough if the wind gets up. Thanks guys n gals

Your boat doesn't sit all that high so you could most likely get away with the shorter shaft ..... but the longer one is only seven inches longer so it wouldn't make a very big difference either way.
