Questions related to patterns from cardboard

So I am to the point where I'm cutting cardboard patterns to trace for my plywood flooring. Has anyone come up with a system for finding the right angles or curves to fit the boat other than just cutting and recutting with an exacto knife til it fits?

Take a piece of cardboard wider than your boat and lay it over the boat. Now on the underside of the cardboard trace the outline of the hull.
Cut the cardboard out and cut the cardboard in two length wise lay the 2 pieces of cardboard in the boat. They will over lap in the middle tape the 2 pieces together.
