Non threaded pedestal bases obviously extend below deck level, but what about threaded bases? Can I mount one directly to 3/4" plywood without the need for clearance underneath?

I think they're surface mount. But what do I know, I thought the threaded swivl eze were too. I'm mounting two seats on the rear bench. The passenger seat must be detachable to mount on a pedestal. All mounts and pedestals will be mounted to 3/4 plywood and the plywood mounted to the bench. I don't want to drill a big clearance hole in the bench and flotation.

I think you're right about the bell style mounts. It appears that they are flush mount that only require screw or bolt holes and it looks like a much more robust system than the Swivel Eze ¾" pin design.
