Central FLORIDA - The Sunshine State -
near New Smyrna Beach, Florida (not too far from me)
on the 5:00 news, a 47 year old man was in his 14' Carolina Skiff not far from
his private dock at his home.
According to witnesses, his boat was going slow when he fell out some how and
had his hands on the side of the boat trying to climb back in when the boat circled
around and ran over him, he died from his injuries.

this is only a FOURTEEN foot center console boat !!!

so many things could have saved his life. Kill switch comes to mind.
But, if you step back to do something with the motor, it doesn't come into play.
So many things can turn bad in the blink of an eye.
As of yet, nobody has said why he took his boat out as he was not fishing.
possibly doing some maintenance and just doing a test run...... don't know yet.
sad sad sad
be careful out there boys n girls !!!

Man, I hate to hear about incidents like this. Not too long ago on the forum, there had been a discussion about life jackets, kill switches, and what happens if a boat starts circling with a person overboard.

If you're on the inside of the stern swing, you're in the safe zone. But if you're toward the outside of the swing, it can be a circle of death, and a PFD actually might become a hinderance, as it prevents you from being able to swim or dive quickly out of the path of the prop.
