I am getting to know my recently purchased 2002 Lund and really enjoying it. My transom plug has the release knob on the interior but the access is blocked by the battery and gas tank. I did finally reach in and it seems the release knob has been removed. The only way to get rid of water is with the bilge pump. I would really like to be able to take out the transom plug with an exterior release knob. Is there a way to do this? Can I somehow knock the present plug into the boat and install a new plug with exterior release? Can I drill out the existing plug? I would really like to remove the transom plug when the boat is out of the water. Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by "release knob" ?????

Is it a standard twist and turn type of plug?

If not, can you find and post an image of something similar??

If it is a so-called standard twist type plug, perhaps he removed the "knob" and replaced it with a bolt. That way, it was permanent, at least until someone reaches in and removes that bolt. I wouldn't try to knock it in until you fully checked that possibility out. richg99

thanks - it is the typical transom plug. I'll crawl down there and see what I discover. I imagine it can be loosened.

It could be any one of the plugs below...
