My name is Mark and I'm new to this site, but have been looking in on a couple of builds. Started to replace the transom on my loweline 16' bass boat and as I got ready to take it out it completely disintegrated so now I don't have a template for a new one. No big deal. what I want to do to replace it is use alum square tubing and build a frame with support beams in it and the put sheet alum around it and use it instead of wood. Would that work and what are the cons to doing it that way? Thanks will post some pics later.

Hi Mark, :WELCOME: to Tin Boats.

Many here have made all aluminum transoms as you explained.
Cons: if the aluminum is not cleaned and treated correctly, you
will fight corrosion forever and possibly loose your entire transom.
Pros: If properly treated and installed, the all aluminum transom will last forever.

several very informative threads on here about what to do. Just search and find
what will work best for you.
