I have an overnight camping river trip coming up and I want some extra maneuverability in the current and a backup propulsion source. Will be taking my 1442 jon boat with trolling motor. I need oars for this size boat. I've seen them from 4.5 to 6.5 ft in length. I do not know what is proper for my boat. The hull width measures 63 inches. What length oars should I get?

Typical boaters formula = ((Beam / 2) X 3) + 6")

That means 100.5" for you or 8-1/2' oars. Sounds really long when written out that way!

But, this is the old wooden rowing boat formula = ((1/2 distance between oarlocks + 2") / 7) X 25 or really long almost 10' oars. But again, that is for specialized rowing craft.
