So I wanna add about 8 to 10 inches of deck to the back bench to give it a little more room for fishing. I already have a sheet of 1/16 of aluminum that I can use for it, but I know that it's not that strong. If I were to really beef up the underside and really put a lot of braces up underneath ( every 6 to 8 inches apart, I still have a lot of angle left over) would it be strong enough to support it? I wouldn't install a pedestal on that piece of aluminum it would be more of a place to rest my feet. Do y'all think my plan would work?

Probably would work but would oil can and dent up with you walking on it. Also if you enclose your gas tank you will be required to carry a fire extinguisher. Assuming you have a portable gas can in the back like typical.
