I have a boat just like this one

Now its older, and I would like to put carpet down on the decks where you stand. In past boats, I would cut a piece of wood, carpet the wood, and then screw that down.

id rather not do that...but how do I cut the carpet and make the edge of the carpet look (where its cut out) good if I am putting straight down on metal.

Also what kind of adhesive to use?

thanks

Make templates from paper or cardboard to fit your decks then transfer to back side of carpet and with good carpet scissors or utility knife cut the carpet pieces . Once you have it cut as for finishing the edges I have used a lighter or torch to slightly melt the edges of the carpet. I have also seen on a couple of yachts where they had the edges hemmed like the edges of a throw rug.

Just thinking out loud, but maybe some kind of flooring threshold. You could probably put screw right through the threshold and carpet no glue, maybe just some carpet tape.
