Hello new to the site. I have a sears v hull 12' not sure where the with length is taken. Transom is about 42". Looking at a gamefisher 9.9. Is that too much motor for my boat? Im sure ill be upgrading to something a little bigger in the next 2 years like a 14' jon. Im sure it would be fine for that application. Also any feedback on game fishers? This is my first boat. Ive gone from kayaks to a canoe with an electric motor to this. Just me and the wife fishing colorado lakes. Thanks in advance for your help. Shawn

Hi there,
I have a 14' V-hull that is titled as a Sears also...however it was manufactured by Richline.

From what I understand, Sears never made any boats...they branded boats built by certain manufacturers. Do you have any sort of Hull ID plate? If not, a picture of the boat may help someone on here identify it.

Once you know who manufactured the boat, you can research the specs for it - including HP rating.

Hope this helps.

Walter

I had an old 12' Sears v-hull a few years ago. I never put an outboard on it, but stability-wise I always felt it was better than the 1436 flat bottoms I have been in. And plenty of them run 9.9 hp motors without problems.

A few pictures. My hin comes back as colorado home made boat. Sears manufacturer year 1900.
