Here's a new one for you. I was out on Geist Reservoir today and I had a snapping turtle pop up right in front of my boat while i was cruising at like 5mph. No time to react i heard him bounced down the underside of my boat I felt him hit the engine then all of a sudden I heard the engine rev really high. I lost all forward momentum. This turtle was larger then a 5 gallon bucket lid and he then swam away. Needless to say i was a little bad mainly because I had a 2 mile ride back to the dock with the 28lb trolling motor. 14ft boat my large self and fishing gear made for a slow ride. But on a good note I got to meet the owner of Red Dirt Bait Company (super nice guy)as I was on my way to the ramp. Caught a nice 2lb large mouth today.

okay - I understand the "ordering" part.

but, in an emergency, most anything will get you back to the dock.
a nail, cotter pin, bolt, etc..... just something to hold the prop on [at a slow speed].
but - BE WARNED - once you take the prop nut off for a "Jimmy Fix"
you run the real risk of loosing the prop if you don't do it right.
(this is why you buy a cheap prop off of e-bay for a spare).
This is one of those things that you "should" practice in your driveway under controlled conditions.
Even if it never happens to you again in your lifetime, you may run across
a stranded boated in the same predicament - and you can share your experience with them.

my worst case was when I sheared the pin 2 miles from the landing......
I put a phillips screwdriver through the pin hole and tied it all up with
a short piece of rope..... not pretty, but it got me home.
next day, I went by my local machine shop and bought a short piece of 1/4"
brass rod and made a HANDFUL of pins !!!!
Suggestion: put a few in a small plastic bag and tie it to the motor under the cowl.
along with a few assorted cotter pins and small hose clamps.

oh, and try to imagine how your day could have gone if the trolling motor died
or the batteries died and all you had was that little short 3ft emergency paddle.

Happy Boating !!!!

I just ordered some extra pins today I understand what your saying about the point but unfortunately mine is a 1973 Johnson with the pin inside the prop not the through hole. I will have extras next time[THUMBS UP SIGN][GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
