So I've been trying to find pictures of the bottom of a mod v jon and can't find one. Is there a big difference between how a mod v and a utility v operate? Both 14'

Both of the links below give topside views of the flooring.

This mod v has a flat floor until the 2nd bench from the back then it starts to V forward from there, but see how the floor panel is a uniform width the whole way to the bow bench.

Where as you can tell there is a curvature to the entire floor even in the back sections between the benches and the front section the floor pannel is much narrower as you get toward the bow.

The mod V jon will either be dead flat on the bottom or have an almost flattened out V shape where the flooring is straight radiating out from the lowest point at the keel to the base of the side. The bottom of a utility V is usually not linear along the same line, curving more aggresively the further you get from the keel. Also - the floor is usually a uniform width in a mod-v jon until you hit the tapered bow section (the very point under the front most bench), again, the utility V's have a bend in the flooring panel causing it to taper and become narrower as more of the flooring material is drawn down into the V. Utility V model numbering follows the length and beam with (1457 is 14' long with a 57" beam) while mod v model numbering follows the length and transom width at the base (1448 is 14' long with a transom that is 48" wide at the base, beam size is 70").

Also, the Mod V will have roughly the same height from the top of the gunwale to the bottom of the keel from bow to stern, whereas the utility v will be much taller towards the bow if viewed from the side.

As far as operation, they can behave differently depending on how you load the weight in them and how much weight you put in and how powerful your motor is. Also, the utility V for the same length and transom width will usually displace more water, so they tend to have a greater weight capacity (compare the capacities of a 1467 utility to a 1448 mod v) and will handle better in rough water due to the extra height from the keel to the top of the bow.
