I found a poly livewell the right shape at the right price except it could be longer than 19". If I bought two of them, is there a way I could join them together? Maybe overlap them and use marine caulk?

I would not trust caulk to hold them together. If they are the same size they will not overlap real well. One will try to bend inside the other. When you get water added to it the weight of the water will stress the caulk too much and it will come apart. There are plastic welders out there that would do the job better in my opinion than trying to overlap it and caulk it. They will melt the original poly while adding more poly to strengthen the joint. You can even use a screen wire to melt into to joint to give it a very strong joint. I have a plastic welder and it works wonders in some situations like this.

I didn't know plastic could be welded but it sounds like a great idea. I could possibly make my own livewell after I found a place called Alro this morning. They carry poly and metals at very reasonable prices.

Wonder if something like this would work:

A planter is a bad idea.... sounds like you should consider something in the farming realm ?
