I'm using this type of seat and I'm not sure if it's aggravating my back or maybe the floor is too high. This was my second day of fishing since I gave it up in 2004. On the first trip the seat was about 8 inches off the bench so I lowered it to an inch or so off the bench and neither seemed to work very well. I have a herniated disc but it's not a problem crawling under houses or climbing ladders. Guess I'll try a better kind of seat and see if it helps.

All the new high end boats come with seats like this:

or

I plan on installing them on my current Lund rebuild.

I think you need one with lumbar support ... I don't have back problems, but those also kill me!

These attached have worked well for me. They are a little wide, but I like that they fold - to help prevent UV damage from the sun, and my butt can go well back into the seat and the ridge at the bottom of the top piece gives me some lumbar support.

For me anyway ... your mileage may vary ...

All boat seats have horrible ergonomics. Office chairs are much better seats than any boat chair. They are also very affordable. You could consider the following:

Buy one of these bases:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Boat-Seat-Adjustable-Height-Power-Pedestal-with-Seat-Mount-12-7-18-1-AQUOS-/291855548732?hash=item43f3f2413c:g:xYsAAOSwOdpXx8x5&vxp=mtr

That company uses standard bifma office chair components for it's boat seats. All office chair cylinders and bases are interchangeable. (most people don't know that).

Replace your current boat seat pedestal base with that one.

Then go buy a nice office chair with adjustable lumbar... recline.. rocking... mesh back that keeps you nice and cool...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alera-Etros-Series-Suspension-Mesh-Mid-Back-Synchro-Tilt-Chair-Mesh-Back-Seat-/172249667323?hash=item281ae156fb:g:xnMAAOSwGIRXabB1

just remove the bottom base on the office chair and the cylinder will drop right in the base of the Aquos boat pedestal.

You could also mount your current boat seat to the aquos pedestal and interchange them whenever you wanted.

I think the bench is going to limit me to the plastic folding type with the same swivel plate. The one I'm using looked good at Wallymart but if feels like sitting on a pancake.

they got em as low as 8.6" Same hole layout you got now.

I may end up with one that can adjust down to bench level even if it means a hole through the bench. The pedestal in my pic felt a little too high for the tiller handle.

Try one of these, before you throw that seat away. Might help. richg99
